H&A | A Binding Ceremony
Updated: Apr 14
This magical micro-wedding took place during the height of the pandemic, in a front yard down a long dirt road. A small gathering of close friends and family, a truly one of a kind celebration of love.
These two weren't interested in conventional traditions, but rather made up their own, replacing their ceremony with a binding spell and a prayer circle. Guests were asked to write an intention on a small card, and to place that intention into the bottle to be sealed along with herbs and stones.
I wanted to shoot this wedding as safely as possible, acknowledging social distancing, keeping it outdoors. Thinking back to all the weddings I'd done, identifying times when I'd been in close contact with my clients and their guests, I realized that the getting ready segment always took place indoors, and that every other segment could be done outside. I brought this gold mirror and we set up a getting ready area under a live oak tree. It was absolutely beautiful, and a great addition to the atmosphere.
A wedding is what you make it. It's made up of intentions and tiny details. I loved shooting this wedding. It was a lesson for me; it opened my mind to what I really do. I document love in all its marvelous forms.
